School Committee unanimously declares three leased school spaces surplus to allow lease renewals

The Salem School Committee on April 6 unanimously approved motions to declare three leased or licensed spaces surplus so the district can issue requests for proposals to renew or update those agreements.
Member Miranda moved to declare the upstairs Boys & Girls Club space (Collins Middle School), the Horace Mann space occupied by Pathways, and a high-school space used by Angela's childcare as surplus; Member Cornell seconded the motion. "Seeing no discussion, all in favor? Any opposed? None opposed," the Chair announced, and the motion carried unanimously.
Buildings & Grounds subcommittee members explained declaring spaces surplus is an administrative step required before issuing an RFP to renew leases and licenses. "This is not about evicting those people. This is about updating our agreements with them," a subcommittee representative said. The district noted two of the three existing lease terms had expired, and declaring the spaces surplus allows the district to solicit tenants while retaining the ability to reuse the space if needed.
The committee took no additional amendments to the motion and did not record a roll-call tally in the public record; the meeting minutes will reflect the unanimous vote and the administrative rationale for the action.
