Fruitport council schedules budget meetings, reappoints Overkamp as library liaison

The Village of Fruitport Council on Jan. 19 set dates for its 2026 budget process and reappointed a council member as the village’s liaison to the library board.
Councilmember Carl Rothenberger moved, with Bill Overkamp supporting, to schedule budget meetings on Feb. 16 at 4 p.m., March 9 at 5 p.m., and March 30 at 4 p.m., with a budget hearing on March 30 at 5 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
On a separate motion by Rothenberger supported by President Roger Vanderstelt, the council reappointed Councilmember Bill Overkamp as the council liaison to the library board, with the liaison term beginning Jan. 1, 2026 and expiring Dec. 31, 2027. The roll-call vote was unanimous.
Overkamp, the library board liaison, reported on library maintenance needs following a handyperson’s retirement, noted the current library board membership and a new chair and discussed renewing the lease. Council discussion included the ongoing role of the DPW team in assisting outdoor library maintenance.
