Commissioners back Hudson Lake sewer Phase 2 support letter, urge grant funding to limit resident costs

Ken Jones of Jones Petrie Rafinski asked the county for a letter of support for Phase 2 of the Hudson Lake public sewer project, explaining that municipal and elected-official support helps USDA and State Revolving Fund scoring and access to multiple funding sources.
Commissioner Joe Haney read additional language into the record and moved approval of the support letter that made clear the Commission’s position: while the County strongly supports the project, it cannot endorse a financing structure that places the burden of costs — including hook-up fees and ongoing sewer expenses — on the backs of landowners in the affected phase. Haney said sufficient grant funding should be sought to reduce direct costs to residents who may lack the financial means to absorb those expenses.
Ken Jones agreed the language was appropriate. President Steve Holifield said sewers would improve and clean up communities. The motion to approve the letter with the additional language carried 2-0.
