Suffield board approves $0.25 school lunch increase; field trip and minutes also approved

Business Manager Eric Remington told the board the district ‘‘has not increased the price of lunch in four years’’ and recommended a $0.25 increase for the 2025–2026 school year under USDA governance. Board member Debra Dudack requested that the motion specify the dollar amount; the board amended the motion and approved the $0.25 increase with five members voting in favor, one abstention (Greg Sparzo) and no votes against (6-0-1).
The board also approved the Suffield High School Music Department field trip to New Orleans (April 8–12, 2026) after Chair Maureen Sattan corrected the previously posted dates. The board approved minutes for the June 2 and June 16 regular meetings and the June 4 special meeting; that motion passed unanimously (7-0-0).
Board members discussed the food-service contract renewal and noted the USDA governs the program; Business Manager Remington said electricity and special-education outplacement costs remain budgetary concerns. The board’s decisions take effect for the 2025–2026 school year.
