Suffield board adopts 2025–28 goals, raises concern about middle school referendum timing

The Suffield Board of Education on July 14 adopted five board goals covering 2025–2028 after a review by a goals working group. Board Chair Maureen Sattan led the discussion and said the proposed goals reflected the working group’s recommendations.
The board also heard an update from Business Manager Eric Remington that an RFP for a consultant on the Suffield Middle School building project lists a potential referendum date of November 2026. Board member Debra Dudack said she was “incredibly concerned about the November 2026 referendum timeline noted in the middle school building project RFP” and advocated moving the date earlier so the project would not be delayed. Dudack and other members noted that the town had previously indicated an earlier referendum target date and an intent to meet a June 30 deadline tied to state grant funding.
Chair Maureen Sattan asked administration to communicate the board’s concern about the referendum timeline to town leaders. The board voted to adopt the Board of Education Goals 2025–2028; the motion passed 7-0-0.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for August 11, with the possibility of an additional August meeting. Minutes for the July 14 meeting are subject to approval at the September 2, 2025 meeting.
