Walker County authorizes settlement form for Park Waterfront remnant-defendant matter after executive session

Following an attorney–client executive session about ongoing opioid litigation, Walker County commissioners on April 6 authorized the county judge to sign a remnant-defendant settlement form on behalf of the county.
The court first recessed for the executive session, citing the relevant statutory authority for attorney consultation, then returned and carried a motion authorizing the county judge to execute the settlement form. "Make the motion to authorize the county judge to sign the remnant defendant settlement form on behalf of Walker County," a commissioner said; the motion was seconded and carried.
County officials did not disclose settlement terms in open session beyond authorizing signature of the settlement form. The court also received an update from the county’s outside counsel (Park Law Firm) while in executive session.
