Santa Rosa issues April proclamations and invites public to Earth Day festival

The Santa Rosa City Council opened April 8 by issuing three proclamations and inviting the community to upcoming events.
Councilmember Fleming read a proclamation recognizing April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month and acknowledged CASA volunteers. "CASA provides all of the training and our community benefits because we have a duty to protect those who are most vulnerable," a CASA board member said.
Councilmember Benuelos read a proclamation declaring April Fair Housing Month; Elena Linna of Fair Housing Advocates of Northern California thanked the city for the recognition and urged ongoing local partnerships to defend housing protections.
Councilmember Rogers read a proclamation honoring American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month; representatives of the Islamic Society of Santa Rosa thanked the city and described community concerns about immigration and the value of interfaith outreach.
Staff also presented a briefing for Santa Rosa's 17th annual Earth Day Festival in Courthouse Square on Saturday, April 25 (noon to 4 p.m.). Jennifer Nesbitt of Santa Rosa Water described free family programming, fare-free transit partnerships, about 60 local vendors, free bike parking and related creek cleanups.
These agenda items were largely ceremonial and informational; the Council then moved to substantive business.
