Scotland Public Library reports strong turnout, book-and-bake sale raises nearly $1,000; mural and Eagle Scout projects move forward

Library Director Mary Geragotelis told the Scotland Public Library Board on Dec. 10 that November attendance and circulation were strong and programs were well attended.
Geragotelis reported that the recent used book-and-bake sale raised close to $1,000 and that Baystate Books picked up most of the unsold books and will return for remaining boxes. She thanked volunteers who helped run the event.
Under unfinished business, board member Linda Segar said she has contacted a local artist who is interested in creating a children’s mural; the board expects to see a plan by the next meeting. The board also heard that an Eagle Scout project to perform trail and bridge maintenance and repairs at library property is progressing.
The board noted that Poet Laureate Susan Powers held workshops at the library and will take some time off during the winter season. In staffing news, the board announced that the library assistant position was filled and welcomed Kim LaMarre to the staff.
Vice Chairperson Beth Delaney raised a facilities concern, reporting that the library entrance lighting “continues to be a problem,” and said she will email First Selectman Dana Barrows about the safety issue.
The board submitted its 2025 meeting dates to the town clerk and developed the January agenda; the meeting concluded at 7:32 p.m.
