Altoona council approves consent agenda, applies for federal crossing funds and hears department reports

At its April 21 meeting the Altoona City Council approved a consent agenda covering routine bills, change orders and pay applications, authorized professional services agreements and a funding application, and approved multiple liquor and beer licenses.
Consent items included Change Order #8 to Alliance Construction (8th Street widening) for $4,950 and Pay App #12 for Alliance Construction for $4,702.50; Pay App #8 to Absolute Group for $193,284.55; an SVPA Architects scope amendment for $2,500; a resolution to write off specified rescue-fee bad debts for the January–March 2025 period; and an Allender Butzke Engineers Inc. professional services agreement for $117,511.42 for work on the Public Works Facility. The council also set a May 19, 2025 public hearing to consider a FY24/25 budget amendment and authorized an application to the Iowa DOT Section 130 federal grade crossing safety improvement program for the 17th Avenue crossing. The consent items and license approvals were approved by roll call votes recorded as 4-0.
Department heads then provided brief updates for their departments, including Police, Fire, Public Utilities, Public Works, Engineering, Community Development, Economic Development, Library, Human Resources, IT and Finance. The council adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
