Board approves application to TVA energy grant for Cannon North Elementary

Board authorized staff to apply for a TVA energy grant (minimum $10,000) to fund an energy audit and potential efficiency projects at Cannon North Elementary; staff said an audit this summer will determine final grant funding and allowable projects.
The Cannon County board authorized district staff to apply for a TVA energy grant for Cannon North Elementary at the Apr. 9 workshop. Staff said the program would provide at least $10,000 and possibly more depending on an energy audit this summer that would identify potential efficiency projects (blinds, LED lighting, HVAC improvements).
"They would come and do an energy audit this summer and tell them what began to save and then that would determine the amount of grant money that they would give, minimum of $10,000," a staff member said. The staff presenter asked the board for permission to apply; the board approved the application.
Staff also noted some larger TVA grants can be substantial in size and that eligibility rules may limit how often a school can receive funding (districts that received a large award in recent years may not be eligible for the same program for several years). The next step is for staff to submit the application and schedule the audit.
