The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council received a joint-subcommittee report on the potential feasibility of reusing water extracted from dewatering wells in the city’s landslide complex, and the council directed staff to "receive and file" the report for future consideration.
City manager Arum Maranian said the findings came from a joint subcommittee of the Infrastructure Management Advisory Committee and the Financial Advisory Committee. The subcommittee explored whether water currently discharged to the ocean could instead be reused for irrigation or other nonpotable applications.
Maranian said the wells "currently pump millions of gallons of groundwater out of the landslide area to the ocean to help reduce underground pressure and slow ground movement." The transcript records the council directing staff to receive and file the report; no vote tally or implementation plan was included in the update.
