Student Wellness Council outlines Instagram kindness initiative, bulletin and Wellness Day

Summary
Fox Chapel student leaders described an array of wellness programs, including an Instagram kindness initiative, locker affirmations, monthly mental-health newsletters and an upcoming Wellness Day with panels and workshops.
Leila Golan and Riley Graham, student representatives to the Fox Leadership Council, told the school board the Wellness Council is running an Instagram kindness initiative, distributing affirmations in lockers and preparing a wellness bulletin outside the cafeteria to connect students with mental-health resources.
"We're continuing our Instagram and kindness initiative where students will post random compliments and submit those to our QR codes," Golan said, describing locker notes and a compliments page to help students feel seen. She said a speaker recognized throughout the Pittsburgh region will present on mental health this week and will host a pullout session for interested students.
Riley Graham outlined past and planned newsletters covering monthly themes: suicide prevention, anxiety, gratitude, seasonal affective disorder, stress management, nutrition and movement. "We've also had a winter wellness day where we distributed free hot cocoa and resources to all students before finals and keystones," Graham said, linking that event to outreach about the 988 hotline and other resources.
The students said Wellness Day will include panels and workshops — such as a session on mental health for athletes and a jewelry-making activity — plus raffle baskets and a dedicated space for pet visits. They encouraged remaining students and families to attend and noted newsletters and a final May 1 deadline for articles.
The presentation was informational; the board received the report and did not take action.
