Council approves South Side sewer change orders after engineering presentation

Summary
An engineering representative told the council that geotechnical issues required additional undercuts and stone; the council approved Change Order 2, which added a manhole at $11,450 and included other adjustments that reduced a contractor request from roughly $58,000 to about $43,000 after documentation was provided.
The council approved Change Order 2 for the South Side sewer interceptor after an engineering presentation that detailed several adjustments and cost clarifications.
Josh Selig of Painting Engineering said crews added an additional manhole "at the unit price of 11,450" because of utility conflicts, swapped a 15-inch line for the 12-inch pipe that had been bid, and addressed geotechnical issues along Merriman Road that required additional undercuts and stone. He said requiring supporting documentation reduced the contractor's initial undercut request from about $58,000 to approximately $43,000. Selig also reported a final two-week bypass-pumping charge of $14,198.36 and identified a $420.50 math correction in the pricing.
Council asked whether an existing siphon or force main would be left in place for redundancy; engineering staff confirmed the old lines would be left in place and that the contractor would perform required cleanup and paving adjustments. After discussion a motion to accept the change orders from Reed and Sons was made and seconded; the minutes record the vote as unanimous.
