The structured-literacy resolution — intended to ensure K'2 teachers receive professional learning and materials tied to the board's literacy priority — was moved and approved in sequence with implementation-adjacent documents offered for flexibility.
The board also conducted second readings and approved Board Bylaw 9250 on remuneration, reimbursement and other benefits (as amended by the referenced Assembly Bill) and Bylaw 9150 to provide a stipend for the student board member, with the board approving retroactive pay back to July. Dr. Maldonado said the student board member will be asked to provide his advisory vote first at future meetings; the board reiterated that the Feb. 10 meeting will be a discussion, not an immediate action, on a potential seventh-period day.
Several items on the agenda were informational: the district presented its audited financial statements for the year ending June 30, 2025, and staff confirmed the audit contained no material findings. The consent agenda of routine items was approved in a single motion.
What happens next: the board scheduled a community discussion of the proposed seventh-period day for Feb. 10. Copies of the audit and the district's implementation documents for the structured-literacy resolution were posted or will be posted to district fiscal and program web pages for public review.
