Taylor Wolf, the county public information officer, asked the Board of Supervisors to recognize April 9 as Local News Day in Nevada County as part of a national effort to strengthen local journalism.
Representatives from Sierra Sun, The Union, Nevada Kai Media, KNCO/Star 94, UBinet and other outlets spoke briefly to thank the county and to explain the importance of local reporting for community safety, civic participation and daily information. Lainie Grifo (Sierra Sun) thanked the county for local engagement; Elias Funes (The Union) described the paper's long history; Pascal Fussello (UBinet) and others emphasized local news as a public good.
The board read and adopted a resolution proclaiming April 9, 2026, as Local News Day in Nevada County and invited media partners for a photo following the meeting.
The presentations were ceremonial; no policy or funding decisions were made at the meeting.
