Council recognizes Neighborhood Networks for Kids attending Civic Awareness Day

Council member Goldberg introduced representatives from Neighborhood Networks for Kids, a program sponsored by the city’s Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families, and described Civic Awareness Day activities for young people and adult participants from eight council districts.
Goldberg told the council the program gives neighborhood residents and youth "an opportunity for those involved in neighborhood networks to learn more about how decisions are made which affect their neighborhoods and how they are made here at the city level." She listed program topics including the new city charter implementation, neighborhood councils, health insurance, childcare and after-school programs.
The council recognized participants and thanked them for attending. Goldberg said the networks focus on safety and leadership development and cited recent training at Erwin Street School where the Los Angeles Police Department and Department of Transportation conducted sessions in four languages. No formal action was taken; the recognition was ceremonial and informational.
