County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners at a March 25 work session that Chattahoochee County received a Local Road Assistance grant that will “piggyback” on LMIG funding and expand the county’s ability to repair local roads.
"We got the local road assistance grant, and it piggybacks off the LMIG grant, so we will be able to help with more roads," Weaver said during the work session. He reported that sections of McGlaun and part of Smith Road were reworked with number‑seven stone in 2017 and have held until this year; Liberty Hill Road and Wells Street required riprap repairs following recent damage. Weaver also reported a $190,000 allocation that could help Liberty Hill and Riverbend Road projects and said Riverbend might be pursued as a TSPLOST or regional project.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to table putting Friendship Road LMIG out to bid so technical specifications could be reviewed at the next work session; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded. The motion passed unanimously at the March 4 regular meeting when the LMIG bid decision was first discussed and was reiterated at the March 25 work session as staff prepared bid materials.
Weaver said the landfill required recent repair work (an excavator was rented to lift and reset a concrete headwall) and that the county has begun departmental budget meetings ahead of the next fiscal-year cycle. The county’s 2025 SPLOST account has started receiving funds, Weaver added.
Next steps: staff will complete technical reviews of the Friendship Road LMIG bid packet, update commissioners at the next work session and coordinate road work prioritization with the financial resources available from LMIG and the Local Road Assistance grant.
