Chattahoochee County votes to seek up to $1 million in FY2025 CDBG funds, pledges $47,500 local match

Chattahoochee County commissioners voted unanimously March 4 to authorize filing an application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for Fiscal Year 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds of up to $1,000,000 for a community facilities program.
The commission also approved a separate resolution committing $47,500 from county funds to serve as the required local match and leverage, contingent on award. Commissioner Jason Frost moved to authorize filing the grant application; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded, and the vote was unanimous. Commissioner Douglas made the motion to obligate the $47,500 local match; Commissioner Frost seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The River Valley Regional Commission agreed to prepare the FY2025 application and related materials. The RC’s letter included a listing of pre-application and application services (data collection, preliminary historic and environmental assessment, public hearings and application submission) and stated that the RC would charge $750 for a new application (or $500 for a rewrite) to defray application costs. The letter also says the RC will provide technical and management assistance to implement the grant if awarded, under a separate contract and fee arrangement.
County action to commit $47,500 is conditional on receiving the grant; the resolution directs the chair to execute required documentation and furnish additional information to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The commission did not adopt a detailed project scope in the March 4 motion; staff will work with the RC on target areas and the program plan if the application moves forward.
Next steps: the county will proceed with the RC to finalize and submit the application, and, if awarded, enter a contract with RC for grant administration and implement reporting and compliance steps required by state and federal CDBG rules.
