Beardstown council approves $379,761.65 payment for USDA sewer project, OKs three TIF renovation grants

The Beardstown City Council on June 18 approved Payment Resolution No. 6 totaling $379,761.65 to advance the USDA Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.

The motion to approve the payment passed by roll call vote. The council record lists the payment breakdown as Hood Construction Group Midwest LLC — $370,015.02 — and Benton & Associates, Inc. — $9,746.63. The motion was moved and seconded as recorded in the meeting minutes and carried by a 6–0 roll call vote.

Council members also approved three tax-increment financing (TIF) renovation grants by unanimous roll call votes. The grants are: up to $14,500 for 88 Bar & Grill LLC; up to $7,625 for Carrie Magerl d/b/a Magerl Law Office; and up to $41,787.50 for First National Bank of Beardstown. Each grant motion passed 6–0, with movers and seconders recorded in the minutes.

City Clerk Brian Ruch presented the May 2024 financial reports, which listed combined checking and special revenue fund balances, and itemized cash receipts and disbursements. The clerk’s report also included departmental overtime and part‑time payroll totals for May. Ambulance reports for Beardstown and Virginia were filed: Beardstown recorded 55 calls in May with $61,888.00 in total charges and $31,097.72 in collections; Virginia recorded 26 calls with $30,074.00 in charges and $22,382.51 in collections.

The council approved a request from Casa De Dios Las Naciones Church to use Art Zeeck Park on July 27, 2024; that motion was approved by voice vote.
