Principals outline gains and staffing challenges in year‑end elementary reviews

Principal Gina Olearczyk told the board that A. Ward Spaulding School saw notable gains this year, citing classroom drop‑ins, continued development of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), successful implementation of CKLA literacy, strong DIBELS testing results, and rollout of Number Corner math in all classrooms. "MTSS (Multi‑tiered Systems of Supports) continues to develop," Olearczyk said, and she identified staffing gaps in support services and increasing complexity of student needs as the school's top challenges for the coming year.
At McAlister Intermediate School, Principal Kris Pryce said Bridges Mathematics implementation was the year’s most significant achievement, backed by targeted professional development and support from the K‑5 math instructional coach. Pryce described an expanded second reading specialist position that allowed greater service for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students and reported a CKLA literacy pilot is progressing. She flagged aging bathrooms in the building as a significant facility concern that will likely require renovation in the future.
Both principals asked the board to prioritize funding for curriculum resources, professional development, and additional academic support personnel. Board members thanked the administrators for the updates and noted the district will consider these priorities in summer planning work.
