Summary
Cyrus Washington requested county help restoring a historic landmark; the board deferred the donation request pending owner permission and cost estimates. The board reappointed members to the planning commission and approved a Child Abuse Prevention event announcement.
During public comment, Cyrus Washington of the We Got Your Back Community Team asked the board for support to restore a historic landmark and return it "to the people." Staff and board members clarified that the memorial sits on private property owned by Mr. Lee Walker and asked the requesters to provide written permission from the landowner and cost estimates. The board deferred the item for later action and directed staff to add it to the budget process if the board chooses to fund it.
Separately, the board considered planning commission reappointments and replacements. The board reappointed Adrian Chapman and Jeff Robinson, accepted Annie Odom’s decision not to seek reappointment and appointed Keisha Hardy to fill that seat; motions passed on roll call.
Staff also announced a Child Abuse Prevention Month Carnival and Walk scheduled for Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Social Services, with arrival requested by 9:45 a.m. The event will include games, painting and food while supplies last.
