Board approves $544,942 in design fees for districtwide restroom renovations

The Chico Unified Board on Jan. 15 approved design fees of $544,942 for Phase 1 of districtwide restroom renovations that staff proposed as part of the facilities master plan.
Staff explained the master plan allocates $14,300,000 for restroom renovations across the district, prioritizing schools that have not already been modernized. The project will be split into two phases, with Phase 1 work planned to begin in 2025 and Phase 2 in 2026; much of the work will occur during summer months to minimize disruption.
The renovations will focus on improving student and staff restroom experiences, Americans with Disabilities Act improvements and creation of all-gender restrooms for use during the school day and evening events. Staff said current cost estimates are trending lower than the $14.3 million allocation and that savings might be redirected to other projects.
Member Olsen moved to approve the design fee authorization and member Konkin seconded; the board approved the motion by unanimous voice vote.
