Torrance Unified introduces four student board members for 2024–25 school year

Chelsea Salazar (North High) said she was "incredibly grateful" for the opportunity to serve as a conduit for peers and to help define what it means to be a Torrance Unified student. Kara G. Kim (Torrance High) described student advocacy and voice as essential, saying she hopes to encourage other students to advocate. Diliette Beniam (South Torrance High) said she looks forward to participating in decision making on behalf of her school. Angelina Quiroz (West High) said she hopes to foster diversity, inclusivity and school pride across the district.
Board members and staff praised the applicants and noted there were 28 applicants for four positions. Two prior student board members will serve as advisers; one adviser (Leah Ho) was absent and sent apologies. The board welcomed the new student representatives and invited continued collaboration between students and trustees.
The student introductions occurred during item 11.2 on the agenda; the board indicated it will work with the student members throughout the year to keep student perspectives central to district decisions.
