The board heard that the inspection was recommended after a risk-assessor walk-through tied to liability insurance renewal. Staff said the report could recommend multiple items and that the $785,000 figure is a comprehensive estimate covering new rigging, replacement or remediation of fixtures, electrical upgrades and a new stage curtain.
"I'd be very interested in knowing what the comparative cost is of replacing all those light fixtures," a board member said, urging the inspection to break out options that could reduce the price. Another member asked whether the curtain is inherently flame-retardant or cotton (which would require re-treatment every five years) and whether rigging is required or could be retained.
Staff told the board they expect the detailed inspection report within about two weeks and will return with specifics on which line items are necessary versus optional and what the potential savings might be if certain elements (rigging or dimmer replacement) are acceptable.
The committee did not vote on the project; staff framed the inspection as fact-finding and said any capital work would be budgeted out of the district's capital fund and brought back for board action.
