Director Lundgren outlines progress on student achievement goals, previews Phase 2 training

Director Lundgren presented a one-page progress overview of the district’s strategic-plan actions tied to student achievement and answered board questions about timelines and measures.
“Some of the items in particular were action items that were easy to identify that it is a yes that was completed,” Director Lundgren said, explaining that many items remain “in progress” until the district defines specific, measurable targets. Lundgren described a color-coded packet that shows work begun on every listed action item.
Board members pressed on professional-development timelines and assessments. Lundgren said Phase 1 training (pre-K–grade 6 classroom teachers, special education teachers, K–12 and district/building administrators) has been completed and that Phase 2 — targeted to grades 7–12 teachers of reading and English language arts — will begin in August. “Our staff are registered and then that course starts in the fall,” Lundgren said.
On measurement, Lundgren noted the district’s reading and math goals in the plan used MCA score targets — a 3% year-over-year increase — but added that the reading assessment is moving to a new MCA 4 this spring, which will establish a new baseline. The board discussed interim monitoring: staff described quarterly data reviews and interim screenings (FastBridge) used to track progress and to adjust instruction before the end of the year.
The presentation also included a newly published district report card on career and college readiness indicators and a first-year senior survey tied to the portrait-of-a-graduate work. Lundgren said about 53% of seniors responded to the survey and that the district used senior check-ins and its digital hub to solicit responses.
What’s next: staff will continue to refine measurable targets and report interim screening results to the board. The chair said the packet and the report card will be on the board agenda for further review at the next meeting.
