Houston County schools honor All-State students and celebrate Month of the Military Child
Summary
At its April meeting the board recognized multiple All-State musicians and artists, celebrated county literary and oratorical champions, and marked Month of the Military Child while announcing summer feeding dates and district award winners.
The Houston County Board of Education used the opening segment of its April meeting to recognize a range of student and staff achievements across the district.
Principals and program directors introduced All-State band appointees from Houston County High and middle schools, the district’s All-State art selection, FBLA and SkillsUSA state winners advancing to nationals, and county literary and oratorical champions. Veterans High School and other schools highlighted students who are military dependents and the district noted that multiple schools are recognized as military flagships.
Superintendent Dr. Wright announced that Langston Road Primary School was named a 2026 military flagship and that the district will again run a summer feeding program offering free meals to children 18 and under from May 26 to July 24; organizations running summer programs may apply to participate before May 1. The board also acknowledged several district staff awards, including the district media specialist of the year.
Board members and principals emphasized student achievement across fine arts, literary competitions and career-technical programs. The recognition portion closed with an oratorical speech by first-place county winner Landon Rios.
