Candia police department to accept 287(g) stipend and allocate funds for vehicles and equipment

Police chief (speaker 4) told the board the department became operational under the 287(g) task-force model and successfully applied for a stipend totaling $115,015 that will fund vehicle transportation and officer equipment. "It gives us a $100,000 for transportation of vehicle because they're offering another vehicle and the security equipment that accompanies that vehicle," the chief said.
The board moved to accept the funds when wired and approved a subsequent motion authorizing their use: purchase of a 2025 Chevy Tahoe priced at $54,997; police safety equipment estimated at $18,286; a mobile radio package at $4,851.30; and equipment/upfitting on an encumbered vehicle at $21,145, yielding a package cost of about $99,002.79 for the immediate items. The chief described a mix of "low-pro" and fully outfitted cruiser options and said some vehicles would be ghost-lettered to preserve resale value.
Separately, the board approved a motion to dispose of an animal-control officer vehicle with an $800 high bid; the chief said the car had 144,000 miles and limited salvageable parts. The board discussed repurposing an existing unmarked cruiser as a fire department command vehicle with minor light/lettering changes; that conversation was left for implementation planning.
Board members approved the grant acceptance and the use of awarded funds by voice vote and asked the chief to return with final vendor quotes and formal purchase paperwork for record-keeping.
