Selectboard authorizes two‑year extension with Constellation after supplier briefing

A Standard Power representative presented municipal electricity supply quotes to the selectboard on Oct. 27 and recommended extending the town's supply contract with Constellation to lock in price certainty.
"Constellation's pricing came in, again, the lowest," the representative said, noting Constellation was able to offer rates below 11¢ per kilowatt‑hour for the terms quoted. He told the board the town's current annual consumption is about 150,000 kWh and reviewed how Eversource's default service rate can swing seasonally.
The board discussed the tradeoffs among 12‑, 24‑ and 36‑month contracts. The representative recommended 24 months as a balance between short‑term flexibility and longer‑term certainty. After discussion of market trends and the town's small load size relative to large industrial customers, a motion to authorize a two‑year extension with Constellation and to allow the town administrator to sign the agreement passed by voice vote.
The supplier also noted the town is exploring a community power program that would be available to residents separately from the municipal supply decision.
Next steps: the representative said he will forward the contract documents to the town administrator for signature and follow up with the board on ancillary items, including community power planning.
