Central High senior wins state swim title; board honors student in spotlight

Central High School coach Christophe Bursins and senior captain Carter Haile appeared at the Omaha Public Schools board meeting April 20 for a school spotlight celebrating Haile’s athletic achievements.
Bursins said Haile set three OPS district records and broke multiple Central High records, and he noted that Haile is Central’s first state swimming champion in several years. Carter Haile told the board he has swum competitively for 11 years, set district records in the 200 individual medley, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and won the 200 individual medley at state. Haile credited family, teammates and coaches for his success and said he plans to stop competitive swimming after the state meet.
Board members asked Haile about his training and other interests; Haile said he skis at Mount Crescent and emphasized teamwork and mentorship as central to his development. The president and trustees congratulated Haile and invited him to meet board members after the meeting.
The spotlight was ceremonial and no board action was required.
