Police Chief Valdimir Talley Jr. updated trustees on equipment plans during the Mayor and Police status reports.
Chief Talley said the grant referenced by staff was not applicable to purchase body‑worn cameras for officers, and that the department is continuing meetings with potential vendors to explore options. He added that the department used a 2018 grant to buy additional tasers for patrol officers and that in‑person training will be provided under the authority of Commander Yancy before the department issues the devices. The chief said the purchased tasers cover all patrol officers (26) after training is completed.
The report was provided as information only; no board action was taken on equipment purchases during the Nov. 4 meeting.
