Maywood trustees approve property sale, multiple payments and two plats; postpone Aetna tax‑incentive renewal

Jones, A. Sanchez, K. Wellington and N. Booker voting aye. Finance Director Lanya Satchell answered a question from Trustee N. Booker about Check No. 103544 to Magnus and Anderson during the discussion of the warrant list and the Open Invoices Report totaling $961,298.95 (information only).
The board approved, by omnibus motion, several payments and a contract authorization. The omnibus motion (moved by Trustee A. Sanchez and seconded by Trustee N. Booker) included: Allied Service Group ($8,400) for transportation of the deceased; City of Chicago water charges ($306,183.92) for services from Aug. 18 to Sept. 17, 2020; Hancock Engineering ($60,614.81) for 2020 alley and roadway improvement engineering services; Triggi Construction ($229,217.67) for roadway, drainage and alley improvements; Insurance Program Managers Group ($141,620.25) for an insurance installment; and an ordinance approving Sammy Thompson Plumbing ($9,870) for a 350‑gallon hot water tank replacement at Village Hall paid from Madison Street / 5th Avenue TIF funds. The omnibus motion passed unanimously.
On property matters, staff presented a proposal to sell village‑owned property at 905 South 3rd Avenue under the ANLAP program. Trustee I. Brandon moved and Trustee A. Sanchez seconded approval; after discussion the board voted in favor and the motion carried.
Two plats of re‑subdivision were approved. A final plat for 1616 South 5th Avenue (presented with a memo from Klein, Thorpe and Jenkins, Ltd.) was approved on a motion by Trustee A. Sanchez, seconded by Trustee I. Brandon. The board also approved a final plat for 1601 South 5th Avenue after Trustee N. Booker moved and Trustee A. Sanchez seconded the motion; both plats passed without recorded opposition.
The board took up a pulled item: a proposed renewal of a Cook County Class 8 property tax designation for 1401 St. Charles Road (Aetna Plywood, Inc.). Trustee N. Booker urged that Aetna provide a plan of improvement that includes job‑training and job‑advancement commitments before granting a third tax incentive. After discussion Trustee N. Booker moved (seconded by Trustee A. Sanchez) to postpone the request to the next board meeting pending a presentation by Aetna; Trustees I. Brandon, M. Jones, A. Sanchez, K. Wellington and N. Booker voted to postpone and Mayor Edwenna Perkins voted no. The motion to postpone carried.
The board adjourned at 8:57 p.m. on a motion by Trustee I. Brandon, seconded by Trustee N. Booker.
What happens next: The postponed Class 8 request will return to a future board meeting when Aetna Plywood is expected to present further information; the draft 2020 real estate tax levy will be finalized for consideration at the Nov. 17 village board meeting.
