TPO board approves $342,000 FDOT-backed lighting project on East Adamo Drive

The Hillsborough County Transportation Planning Organization board on April 8 voted unanimously to approve a Florida Department of Transportation‑backed amendment to the FY26–30 Transportation Improvement Program to add lighting along a two‑mile section of East Adamo Drive (State Road 60) from North 22nd Street to U.S. 41.

Harry Walsh, TPO staff, said the project carries a budget of $342,000, the overwhelming majority of which is advanced construction (AC) highway safety funding; an additional $1,000 was shown for FDOT in‑house product support. FDOT will manage the project; the installation will be performed by the local utility under a Roadway Illumination Services Agreement and later added to FDOT’s maintenance agreement with the city of Tampa.

Board members were told the project is ready to proceed upon approval and could be completed in time to be in place before the school year. After presentation and brief questions, the board approved the amendment by roll call vote. The clerk reported the motion carried 12–0.

The project will be delivered by FDOT with local utility installation, and the city of Tampa will add the lights to FDOT’s maintenance agreement once complete. No construction start date was given; presenters said timing depends on FDOT deliverables and utility scheduling.

The board’s action adds the lighting scope and funding to the TIP; the amendment was sponsored to advance pedestrian safety on a corridor identified as an emerging pedestrian corridor during prior TAC review.

Next steps: FDOT will manage contract and installation details; the TPO will track delivery and the item will appear in FDOT and local agency implementation schedules.
