Gary Stainback, an Inframark representative, told the Yanceyville Town Council on April 4 that the town's water and wastewater systems are being monitored closely after recent operational issues.
Stainback said distribution disinfection-by-product (DBP) samples — specifically trihalomethanes (THM) and haloacetic acids (HAA) — taken on Feb. 22 were "compliant with the regulatory limits and lowered the site running average limit back to compliance." He reported that, at the wastewater plant, a malfunctioning decanting valve led to elevated effluent biochemical oxygen demand and ammonia nitrogen that exceeded permit limits.
"Additional 'seed sludge' was added to the biological treatment system to expedite recovery of the process," Stainback said, and Inframark collected additional compliance samples for the March reporting period to assess weekly and monthly performance. He also noted that Inframark staff and the technical service manager met with town staff March 15–16 to discuss a system-wide hydrant flushing program and related distribution water-quality work.
Kevin Woods, Inframark's wastewater manager, attended training in Raleigh March 21–23, Stainback reported. The town did not vote on any operational actions during the meeting; Stainback's update was presented as an informational status report.
The council did not identify a new timeline for returning to pre‑incident levels beyond the continuing sampling and monitoring described by Inframark. Council members thanked Stainback for a detailed report.
