SAN MARINO, Calif. — The San Marino Unified School District Board of Education opened its March 10 meeting and, after explaining public-comment procedures and accessibility accommodations, received no public comments before adjourning to a closed session.
Board President Francesca Gill reminded attendees that board meetings are open to the public unless a meeting is publicly noticed as a confidential closed session "as allowed by law," and said the audio of all meetings is recorded. Gill also warned that a member of the public could be held liable for "slanderous or otherwise defamatory statements." Gill asked attendees to silence cell phones and explained how individuals with disabilities could request auxiliary aids or other accommodations by contacting the assistant to the superintendent at the email and phone number provided.
Gill reviewed three ways to submit public comment for closed- and open-session items: via an online form, by requesting to speak during the meeting via Zoom (using the raise-hand function or dialing 9 by phone), or by submitting an in-person public comment card. She said the online form was open from 11:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. on March 10 and provided a bit.ly link; she reported there were no online submissions. Gill also explained a one-minute speaking limit and that the meeting would pause during public comment to take Zoom requests. No Zoom attendees raised their hands and no in-person comment cards were submitted.
With no public commenters, the meeting moved to an announced closed session. Gill stated the closed session would begin at 5:32 p.m., and the board adjourned to that session.
