Board approves 5% tuition increase for preschool and child-development programs

The Carmel Unified School District board approved a proposed 2026–27 fee schedule that raises tuition for preschool and child-development programs by 5 percent. Yvonne Perez presented the annual review, saying operating costs and salary/benefit increases have put pressure on program budgets and that modest periodic adjustments help limit the general-fund subsidy for these largely non–self-sustaining programs.
"Operating costs for these programs continue to rise," Perez said. "This adjustment helps offset the rising cost and helps us maintain high-quality programming and keeps our rates competitive with other local providers."
There was no public comment on the item. A trustee moved to approve the fee schedule as presented and the motion passed on a roll call vote with support from all members present. Perez said the increase balances long-term sustainability with preserving program quality and that staff provided a rate comparison as part of the agenda packet.
The board’s vote authorizes the district to implement the adjusted tuition schedule for the 2026–27 academic year.
