Manager says July 4 fireworks plan moving forward but vendor must raise insurance because of nearby new building

Tom, the borough manager, updated council on July 4 fireworks planning and said staff tested shells and launch points to ensure sightlines and safety. He said the borough holds a contract for the display but is evaluating whether the school-district field will be usable because of construction staging and trailer placement; as a contingency the borough tested Glenwood Avenue but found tree cover and elevation differences may affect sight visibility.
Tom said the borough will require the vendor to increase its insurance coverage because of a nearby, recently built structure valued in the transcript at $102,000,000. "We need to definitely have the company increase their insurance because we have a $102,000,000 building sitting beside it now," Tom said. He added the fire company will be on site with water and mitigation measures, and that borough staff will meet with school-construction contractors to coordinate staging and avoid trailers in the launch area.
Tom said if the borough cannot secure a safe launch site it would have to cancel the display, though he said they did not anticipate cancellation at this time. The council did not vote on any fireworks contracts at the meeting; staff will continue coordination with the vendor, the fire company and the school district.
