Mayor Mark Elkins proclaimed April 20–28, 2026 as "7 Days of Kindness" for the City of Leawood during the April 6 meeting, and presented the proclamation to Tony Corcoran, a representative of the family-founded 7 Days organization.
"I, Mark Elkins, mayor of the city of Leawood, Kansas, do hereby proclaim April 20 through 04/28/2026 as 7 days of kindness in the city of Leawood," Elkins read, outlining a week of events including a kindness breakfast and a youth celebration.
Tony Corcoran, who said the group was formed in 2015 in response to the April 13, 2014 tragedy that affected his family, thanked the mayor and council and described the scope of 7 Days activities, including a "Kindest Youth Leadership Team" that brings students from dozens of schools across the Kansas City metro. Corcoran encouraged community participation and noted that more information is available at 7days.org.
The proclamation also honors the memory of three individuals and asks citizens, businesses and organizations to participate in acts of kindness during the week. City officials noted Leawood will participate in broader efforts to expand the initiative beyond U.S. borders and highlighted plans to support youth leadership programming connected to the week.
