Forest Lake seeks technical fix to keep veterans memorial project on track

Sen. Housley told the committee that Senate File 4217 corrects 2023 bonding language to align legal and fiscal responsibility for the Forest Lake Veterans Memorial with the city of Forest Lake.
The bill would explicitly designate the city as the responsible public entity rather than the Veterans Memorial Committee, aligning statutory language with how donations and project funds have been managed. "This legislative change aligns with statutory language with the project's actual governance, financial management, and ownership structure," Sen. Housley said.
Ron Miller, chair of the Forest Lake Veterans Memorial Committee, said the group has sold more than 400 pavers over time and completed underground work and footings; the centerpiece requested in the correction would be a large bronze sculpture and is expected to be completed and dedicated around Memorial Day next year.
The committee laid the bill over for possible inclusion.
