Summary
The committee voted to recommend renewing a marketing and site‑location services contract with Global Site Location Industries, while members debated package costs and which services to include as part of a long-term promotion strategy tied to River's Edge and other incentives.
The LaSalle Economic Development Committee voted to recommend renewal of its partnership with Global Site Location Industries for economic development marketing and site-location services, after a discussion about the program—s cost and effectiveness.
Kirk described Global Sites' role in marketing LaSalle to manufacturers and site selectors, noting the company lists the city's properties on its platform, attends trade shows and distributes approved marketing materials. "We have partnered with Global Sites for a couple years now," Kirk said, adding that the city is listed on the firm's website and that staff can adjust the package of services.
Committee members raised concerns about price and value. One member reviewed line items in the proposal (an "Elite Cities" option, investment showcases, retail campaigns and a podcast feature) and questioned whether the full $26,000–$30,000 package and additional promotional packet were justified. "I struggle with the amount of money that some of these people charge," the member said. Another member urged a long-term perspective: "Economic development is playing the long game...the more exposure we get that way...I would say it'd be more of a plus than a negative," said a committee member.
After debate about which elements could be pared back and whether the city was getting sufficient returns, a motion to recommend renewing Global Site Location Industries' services was made, seconded and approved by roll call. The committee will forward the recommendation to City Council; staff noted the package is adjustable and that continued promotion supports River's Edge and Opportunity Zone efforts.
