Stillwater County commissioners approve Weed District MOU extension, hear treasurer and staff reports

The Stillwater County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 29, 2026 approved an addendum extending the Weed District's memorandum of understanding with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks through Jan. 31, 2027 and received a series of staff reports, the board's minutes show. Commissioner Steve Riveland moved to approve the consent item and Commissioner Roger Webb seconded; the vote was 3-0 in favor.

The county treasurer's report for the month ending Dec. 31, 2025 was filed with the board and shows total cash on the books of $79,772,331.05. The board consented to file the report as part of the consent agenda.

Dana Weatherford of the Weed District provided background on the MOU extension, noting the addendum is part of the annual renewal for a five-year agreement with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Joan Brownell, a citizen, told commissioners that the Weed District and Weatherford have done a "great job," the minutes say.

Library director Jennifer Ball presented the Stillwater County Library's annual report for 20242025 and summarized items of significance for the year. Chad Coles, facilities, told the board to expect a change order related to courthouse renovations and flagged a water leak in the courthouse that will require attention. Weatherford also summarized Weed District activities, including cooperative work with the Montana Department of Transportation, the local airport, the city of Columbus, the Absarokee sewer district and DNRC, and a recent salt cedar eradication operation along the Yellowstone River carried out with search-and-rescue partners.

Earlier in the week, on Jan. 26, the board held a brief session in which it approved minutes from Jan. 12, Jan. 15 and Jan. 22, 2026 by a 3-0 vote and adjourned at 9:03 a.m. The Jan. 29 meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
