Stillwater County commissioners approve preservation grant, DPHHS licensing task order and reappoint planning board member

Stillwater County commissioners on Feb. 26 unanimously approved a set of routine items including a historic-preservation grant for the county museum, a task order with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) for environmental health and food-safety licensing, and the reappointment of a planning board member.
The board, meeting at the Stillwater County Courthouse in Columbus, voted 3-0 to approve minutes from Feb. 19 and Feb. 23 before taking up consent and new-business items. Kisha Cornell, the county Finance/Administrator, provided background on the Historic Preservation Program Grant, noting the county has participated for about 12 years and that the City provides a matching contribution to support the museum. The board approved the grant for the 2026–2027 fiscal year on a 3-0 vote.
County Health Nurse Natashia Sailer described Task Order No. 26-07-4-21-144-0, a DPHHS task order with Stillwater County that covers Environmental Health and Food Safety Licensing for Jan. through Dec. 2026. Sailer said related pass-through funds support services such as well-baby and nutrition programs for new mothers. The commissioners approved the task order 3-0.
The board also reappointed Curt Jacobs to the County Planning Board, with a term expiring in 2028. Commissioner Jeff Ruffatto praised Jacobs’s long service to the board; Commissioner Steve Riveland moved for reappointment and Commissioner Roger Webb seconded. The motion passed 3-0.
In staff reports, Ben McVittie, Road and Bridge, briefed the commissioners on planned Road and Bridge projects for 2026, and Chad Coles, Facilities, provided an update on Phase II of courthouse construction. The meeting adjourned at 9:16 a.m.
