Library to pilot MakerSpace after $14,000 in grants from Carnegie Foundation and Phillips 66

The Bartlesville Public Library will pilot a MakerSpace this summer after council discussion March 2 highlighted two grants totaling $14,000.
Councilman Kirkpatrick pulled the consent item to invite the library to explain the project. Library representative Kylie said the library — an original Carnegie library selected by the Carnegie Foundation for a $10,000 award — will combine that grant with a Phillips 66 contribution to purchase equipment commonly found in MakerSpaces: 3D printers, a laser engraver, soldering tools, crafting supplies and similar hands‑on technology. The library called the initial effort a pilot intended to gauge community interest and accessibility; if demand is strong, the library said it would pursue donations and additional funding to expand the space.
Council praised the initiative and noted the pilot will coincide with celebrations tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary. Funding will come from the two grants identified in the council packet; no city match was presented at the meeting.
