The Imlay City Board of Education on Feb. 23 approved payment of $2,238,082.00 in General Fund and Lunch Fund bills and disbursements, and $15,735.00 in Bond Capital Project checks.
Treasurer Doug Van Dyk moved and Vice President Kaylee Kaeding supported the motion to approve the General and Lunch Fund payments; President Sharon Muir, Vice President Kaylee Kaeding, Treasurer Doug Van Dyk, Trustee Greg Dennis, Trustee Alex Lengemann and Trustee Laura Zelenak voted aye. Trustee Greg Dennis moved and Treasurer Doug Van Dyk supported payment of the Bond Capital Project checks; that motion also passed unanimously.
The board considered several other motions and votes. Trustee Alex Lengemann moved to take from the table a prior motion to approve a high-school trip to Japan for summer 2027; the motion failed on roll call, with Lengemann the sole aye and five no votes (Muir, Kaeding, Van Dyk, Dennis and Zelenak). By contrast, Vice President Kaylee Kaeding moved and Trustee Laura Zelenak supported approval of a separate high-school trip to Europe (Germany, Italy and Switzerland) planned for summer 2027; that motion passed unanimously.
On governance matters, Vice President Kaeding moved and Trustee Greg Dennis supported the board's endorsement of James Johnson for the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) Region 5 Board of Directors; the board voted unanimously to support the candidate.
On a procurement item, Trustee Greg Dennis moved and Vice President Kaeding supported awarding the Bid Package — Real Estate Broker Services to Pilot Property Group at 6% brokerage. Trustee Alex Lengemann proposed an amendment to reduce the brokerage to 3% and negotiate buyers brokerage; the amendment received no second and failed. Trustee Lengemann then moved to table the award until the March 23, 2026 meeting so Dr. Cameron could discuss proposals with the realtors and consult with the Buildings and Grounds Committee; that motion to table carried unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. The board is scheduled to reconvene on March 23, 2026, where the real-estate broker award will be revisited.
