Chippewa Hills board adopts new social studies curriculum for middle and high school

The Chippewa Hills School District Board of Education voted March 17 to adopt new social studies curricula for middle and high school students.
A district committee that reviewed several social studies programs recommended using TCI for middle school and Mosaic 8th-grade materials, and SAVVAS for Mosaic and high school grades 9–12. Kyle Talicska and board member Amanda Cornell told the board the committee compared multiple programs over several months and decided that two separate programs would better meet grade-level needs.
The motion to approve the recommended curricula was made by Amanda Cornell and supported by Brian Simon. Board members Sherry Anderson, Anthony Gibson, Amanda Cornell, Lionel MacKenzie, Brenda Donley and Brian Simon voted yes; Julia Ezell was absent. The motion carried unanimously among members present, 6–0.
Officials did not record implementation dates or budget line items for the new materials in the minutes; the transcript notes only the committee recommendation and the board’s approval. The district will proceed with adoption and rollout planning under existing implementation procedures.
