Neighbors object as Spillers seek conditional use to place mobile home on 15 acres at 410 Firetower Road

Brandi and Phillip Spillers asked the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County to grant a conditional use permit to place a mobile home on 15 acres at 410 Firetower Road, telling commissioners they chose a manufactured home because they cannot afford to build and plan to place the unit on a concrete slab.

Planning and Zoning gave a written recommendation of approval and the Spillers said the lot had been subdivided from a previously larger tract. "We want to come out here because of the community," one of the applicants said, adding that his wife works from home and that they are familiar with area residents.

Neighbor Mark Henson spoke in opposition to mobile homes in the area, saying he had seen many vacant and abandoned units elsewhere and that such properties "make the county look ugly." The chairman also said he had received a text from an adjoining property owner expressing concern about CUVA status on neighboring land; that owner did not speak at the hearing. Planning staff and commissioners recorded that the application satisfied the checklist requirements for an R‑R zoned parcel, but the minutes do not record a permit decision at the hearing.

The public hearing closed without a recorded vote; commissioners did not take final permitting action in the minutes. The matter was on the work session list for placement on a future regular meeting agenda, where it can be acted on after any required staff reports and notices.
