Faribault policy committee approves multiple policy actions; approves ethics update over one dissent

Superintendent Jamie Bente called the Faribault Public Schools District Policy Committee to order at 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2026, for a meeting that approved multiple policy referrals and set the next meeting for March 3, 2026.
The committee approved sending five existing district policies to the school board with no changes: Policy 301 (School District Administration), Policy 302 (Superintendent), Policy 303 (Superintendent Selection), Policy 304 (Superintendent Contract, Duties & Evaluation) and Policy 305 (Policy Implementation). The motions to forward those policies were carried unanimously; earlier motions recorded a 6-0 tally while later votes (after a member’s arrival) were 7-0.
The committee next considered four policy revisions recommended by the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA). Committee member Natalie Fashant moved to send revisions to Policy 306 (Administrator Code of Ethics) to the school board; Nick Jurrens seconded the motion. The committee approved the revisions 6-1, with Committee member Linda Moore voting against the recommendation. The minutes state the MSBA language inserts Minnesota’s Code of Ethics for School Administrators and removes the NAESP Statement 1100.2.
The committee also approved MSBA-recommended revisions to Policy 606 (Textbooks and Instructional Materials), which add Article V paragraph D quoting 20 USC 1232h(a); the motion was moved by Nate Molitor and seconded by Natalie Fashant and passed unanimously, 7-0. Committee members approved revisions to Policy 712 (Video Surveillance Other Than on Buses), adopting MSBA’s change of the term “surveillance” to “recording” and clarifying Article II.A.3 (motion by Wendy Susen, seconded by Nick Jurrens; 7-0). Finally, the committee approved revisions to Policy 722 (Public Data and Data Subject Requests) to incorporate a 2025 legislative update to Minnesota Statutes 13.03 into Article IV and noted an annual review requirement (motion by Natalie Fashant, seconded by Nate Molitor; 7-0).
All motions to forward revised or unchanged policies will proceed to the school board for final action. The committee adjourned at 3:58 p.m.
