Superintendent Roper highlights summer reading program and honors long-serving staff

Superintendent Roper opened the July 14 meeting by recognizing staff and highlighting summer learning work across the district.
Roper recognized Monica Turner, a 19-year district employee who received a Key to the Village on June 24 in appreciation for her commitment to students; the minutes note Turner continued serving students during and after medical treatment. The board’s involvement in regional awards was noted: Peter Deahl received a 12-year service award from the Oakland County School Boards Association and additional awards with Leigh Jackson and Linda Blair from the Michigan Association of School Boards.
Executive Director Szczechowicz reported the Curriculum Department launched the district’s first Summer Reading Program book exchanges with events at Holly Elementary and the Meadow Lake Clubhouse; Oakland County Parks provided nature exhibits at the first exchange and is scheduled to return July 23. Attendance was approximately 120 at the first exchange and 100 at the second. Staff professional learning and August 13–14 summer conference planning were described as part of instructional preparation for 2025–26.
