Bond projects at Edson and Bailey continue; temporary kitchen and asbestos work underway

Facilities staff provided a multi‑part update on the 2023 bond projects at the April 8 meeting.
The Director (speaker 6) said asbestos testing and removal are ongoing at Edson, Titan conducted a roof inspection on March 31, and work to locate a rooftop unit for the gym is underway. At Bailey staff reported ceiling removal in classrooms between Entrances B and C and on multiple floors, tile removal in the nurses suite, and other renovation tasks tied to a phase‑2a kitchen renovation. The Department of Health has signed off on work and the team is awaiting final SED comments and issuance of a building permit for some packages.
Director said a temporary kitchen will be located at 50 Boise Lane while the permanent kitchen is under construction; equipment coordination and early equipment needs are in process and a bid package for kitchen work is expected in April. Phase‑3 and phase‑4 submissions for other schools (including Graves and Meyer) are in technical review with SED and elevator pit demo and temporary wall installation are underway in some locations.
Trustees asked for minor follow‑ups (for example, adding a second bottle filler at Kennedy School) and staff said they will review the Kennedy report and incorporate requested additions. The Director asked trustees to return building inspection responses by Thursday, April 23, so staff can prepare a final report for the April 28 facilities meeting.
No action items requiring immediate board votes were recorded during this report; staff encouraged trustees to review the technical materials and respond to inspection findings.
