The Powell City Council approved a budget amendment, Resolution 1, 2026, that increases the general fund by $130,720 to cover carryovers and unanticipated expenses. City Attorney (S5) told the council the amendment includes $52,000 carried over for a park splash pad and $51,320 carried over for the police department HVAC system, both budgeted in the prior fiscal year but paid in the current year.
S5 said the amendment also includes $10,000 for required legal advertising for ordinances and other notices and $10,000 to cover police vehicle repairs, including a motor failure on a vehicle no longer under warranty. The attorney added $7,400 for plan-review work tied to an upcoming 24-plex development and noted a $4,000 Moyer Foundation grant for banners that must be recorded in the books.
“So it is, general fund increase of the sum of $130,720,” S5 said when outlining the amendment. After the presentation, Council member (S3) moved to approve Resolution 1, 2026; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The amendment is intended to record carryover project costs and to ensure sufficient appropriations for the items listed; S5 advised that some expenditures were delayed into the new fiscal year due to vendor timing and statutory advertising requirements. Council did not request further amendments at the meeting. The resolution takes effect as adopted; staff will reflect the changes in the city’s accounting records.
