The report, which previously went to city council on consent, noted promotions (including Sergeant Tracy Trepini and Sergeant Johnny Spate), the retirement of Sergeant Ross Molesworth after 23 years and 11 other hires during 2024. Staff reported community-service and parking ambassadors issued just over 9,600 parking tickets and roughly 10,000 total citations that year, generating just under $2 million in fines.
Presenters also reviewed dispatch and patrol call metrics: the dispatch center received more than 41,000 calls (including 911 calls) while total patrol calls were reported at 24,097; staff said overall calls for service down year-to-year by about 11% while patrol calls rose. The commission was told the city approved a $980,000, five-year renewal contract with Axon for body-worn cameras.
A department representative said this meeting was their last commission appearance and thanked commissioners for their work; the commission expressed appreciation and wished the staff member well in retirement. Commissioners agreed to receive the full annual report in October ahead of the council presentation so the commission can provide feedback.
No public comments were received during the presentation. Commissioners tentatively added an SRO presentation and a joint Sierra Wellness/STACKS update to the August agenda.
